Mark’s Weekly Update for Members

Next practise for the Halifax Concert Band will be Tuesday, January 31, 6:00-8:00 pm. On this rehearsal, we will assemble the Irish show (except the singalong tunes – they can wait for a couple of weeks yet). The material for the show, in order, is:
Irish Suite (Anderson)
Pennywhistle Jig
Irish Medley No. 2
Mother Machree
Brian Boru's Patrol
Danny Boy
The Foggy Dew
Killyburn Brae (from Longford Legend)

The singalong tunes will be interspersed with these tunes, as usual.

After we have dealt with this material, we will read through Star Trek Through the Ages, which has been distributed already. If time permits, we'll review the Star Wars piece, starting from bar 75, and (hopefully) review Abracadabra.

Upcoming shows are:

The Irish show: St. Patrick's Church on Sunday, March 11, 2:00 pm.

St. George Society (small band of about 24 players and the Funny Books). Monday evening, April 23, location unknown.

Kiwanis Music Festival: Likely Tuesday, April 24, 7:00 pm. Southern Hymn and Abracadabra.

Geek Month concert: May 4 or 11 (to be decided). That would be a Friday night. Location either St. Agnes Church or Quinpool Education Center. This is the one organized by the Hal-Con Comic Book and Sci-Fi convention people. There will be another concert of this ilk in October. Music to be performed will be Star Wars Marches (currently in the main folder) plus Star Trek Through the Ages, Sailor Moon, Theme from Spiderman, Superman Theme, Theme from Batman, Theme from The Flintstones (a bit of a stretch – retro perhaps) and maybe a couple of others that won't be too hard to assemble. These will go into the Funny Books.

IWK Kermesse: Saturday, May 26, likely 10:00 to 11:30 am. Funny Books for sure.

Spring concert: Tuesday, June 5, 7:00 at St. Agnes Church auditorium. Scheduled tunes, so far, are Abracadabra, Fantasy on American Sailing Songs, Blues Brothers Review, Imperial Echoes. It will likely be necessary to pad the show with some of our comic book show tunes, so Star Trek will be on it and the Star Wars marches will be too. I suspect that Longford Legend may be a good bet too. I think that we'll have enough time to do a credible job of it.

We'll leave this posted and it will be updated as needed.
